Both returners and beginners painted country cottages this week. These cottages were from the west of Ireland, the windswept Scottish highlands, the beautiful Welsh valleys or the rolling hills of Dorset. Students learnt to build up the colours in their paintings using many layers. They also tried out different techniques to create grasses, trees and other vegetation. The fine liner was also used to give structure to windows, houses, grasses etc. This line and wash technique is a popular watercolour style. These techniques resulted in creating beautiful images of cottages surrounded by their landscapes. It was a great exercise for all students to practise their watercolour painting.
