City hotels were our last project in Acrylics. There are plenty of beautiful hotels in Dublin eg Merrion Hotel, The Dean, Westbury, Clontarf Castle and of course Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel. We had our classes here for the last 5 years and hopefully many more. It holds lots of pleasant memories for us as we created many pieces of art. This historic hotel has a wonderful entrance with its castle facade, lamps, step railings and large steps.
Tutor started off by showing the students how to create a background. They got to experiment with a plastic card to create impasto effects on the brickwork. There were plenty of shadows to be painted under the windows, entrance, pillars etc. Steady as it goes was required for those window frames and railings. Attention to detail and different tonal values in the shrubbery, walls, steps etc all helped to achieve the painterly and realistic version of these hotels. Another very satisfying and rewarding project in acrylics.
Next week we will be mounting all our completed artwork in preparation for the exhibition on 24th April at 2.30pm @Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel, Killiney. Don’t miss it.
